Coaching, in general, engages clients in thought-provoking processes, by learning new ways to unleash their true potential to reach meaningful, significant objectives to achieve their realistic goals in their lives (Skiem & Brooks, 2018).

Life coaching is increasingly pursued by a diverse range of individuals who have the desire to be their Authentic Selves.

  8. The principles of Positive Psychology are for clients to focus on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses, and to learn and apply alternative techniques to develop healthier aspects in their lives, rather than fixating on stressful experiences (O'Donohue, 2012).

  9. Exploring Gratitude Journalling, which is a diary in which clients acknowledge what they appreciate in their lives.

  10. Improves performance levels, self-efficacy, well-being, and quality of life (Ammentorp et al., 2013.

Self-efficacy is defined as an individual’s beliefs and feelings that influence an individual’s aptitude to achieve their goals (Cox, Bachkirova & Clutterbuck, 2014).

Life Coaching is a supportive approach to help clients change their current thought patterns by learning the CBT techniques, to manage their current concerns to achieve their goals (Neenan, 2008).

Life Coaching questions are a valued technique for a client to have more self-awareness

Socratic Questioning is “a form of indirect questioning leaving the client to draw their conclusions” (Scott, 2009, p. 1).

  • “Think of a time when you were frustrated but still managed to succeed in achieving your goal?”

  • “What are the consequences if you do not start….?”

These questions offer clients time to explore alternative ways of thinking that may increase self-efficacy and their quality of life (Hayes, 2008).

The focus is on clients’ current concerns, educating clients on how to manage to be their coach and manage current and future concerns in their lives (Ammentorp et al., 2013).
